Summer Training Program 2010

Summer training batches starting from Feb 2010

Summer Training in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics, the application of informatics to biological problems, is used extensively to examine the structure function of genes and proteins. The bioinformatics market primarily is driven by the need of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to increase the efficiency of their drug discovery and development efforts. This course imparts training in software applications development, mathematics, statistics, cell & molecular biology and other bioinformatics tools. Bioinformatics is growing rapidly with applications in the areas such as functional genomics, comparative genomics, genome/proteome annotations, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and tool development. There is a huge shortage of skilled bioinformaticians to work for industry, academics and government sectors. Here we aim to mould biologists as bioinformatics professionals through appropriate training and real time projects

Institute Of Computational Biology  offers short term and long term training programme in the area of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Students from Life Sciences, Computer Science and Mathematics backgroud, who are at Masters Level, can apply for the training programme. The training programme duration can be from one  months to six months.

Summer Training in Biotechnology

Animal Lab Testing & ADMET

Animal testing / animal experimentation is the use of non-human animals in scientific experimentation. Drug discovery and development involves in vitrotesting, in silico testing, testing for Physicochemical properties,  ADMET testing on animals, and human clinical trials, (Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III.).Animal tests are designed, in part, to ensure safety of humans undergoing Phase I trials. The 15 days training period exposes the candidate to the pre clinical testing overview. The training  incorporates hands on practical session on different extraction procedures ,chromatographical techniques, drug dosage calculation, animal handling and histopathological studies.

Summer Training on Microarray Data Analysis

Functional genomics is the study of gene function through the parallel expression measurements of genomes, most commonly using the technologies of microarrays and serial analysis of gene expression. Today usage of microarray has been expanded to every field of life science, and its applications include basic research and target discovery, biomarker determination, pharmacology, toxicogenomics, target selectivity, development of prognostic tests and disease-subclass determination. As the cost of microarrays continues to drop, it is clear that microarrays are becoming more integral to the drug discovery process. Before multiple microarray measurements can be integrated into a single analysis, the reported measurements need to be normalized, or modified (possibly corrected) to make them comparable. Current methodologies to analyse RNA-expression data sets can be divided into two categories: supervised approaches, or analysis to determine genes that fit a predetermined pattern; and unsupervised approaches, or analysis to characterize the components of a data set without the a priori input or knowledge of a training signal. There are different analytical method like hierarchical clustering, self-organizing maps, relevance networks, principalcomponents analysis, nearest neighbours support vector machines which are used to find the dissimilarity measure between any two chosen gene. Systems biology is a relatively new biological study field that focuses on the systematic study of complex interactions in biological systems, thus using a new perspective (integration instead of reduction) to study them. With the progress of genome sequence project and range of other molecular biology project that accumulate in-depth knowledge of molecular nature of biological system, we are now at the stage to seriously look into possibility of system-level understanding solidly grounded on molecular-level understanding. Although systems are composed of matters, the essence of system lies in dynamics and it cannot be described merely by enumerating components of the system. There are numbers of exciting and profound issues that are actively investigated, such as robustness of biological systems, network structures and dynamics, and applications to drug discovery. Systems biology is in its infancy, but this is the area that has to be explored and the area that we believe to be the main stream in biological sciences in this century. The objective of this training program to enrich the knowledge of student and professional in the two powerful domain of life science. The summer training  will be complete hands on session each day on different softwares used in those two fields like R, Bioconductor, system biology software etc. Session are arranged in such a way that participant will get theoretical knowledge about the domain followed by hands on session on the same topic. Eminent academic and industry persons will cover the theoretical session.
